Room 8: Newsletter (May 2020)

April 24, 2020 By ray

Dear Parents,

Go team, big high fives to everyone!! We have been learning from home for a whole month and our kids are doing an amazing job! They are happy, learning and we are all healthy!! Now we are gearing up and getting ready for May.

We have a full curriculum packed with fun, creativity, challenges, and success! For Social Studies/History, we will start with a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta! Ready to try your hand at some piñata making or some Mexican cuisine???? Of course, after a little lesson on why we celebrate this special day. Science also will provide for some great learning experiences as we study the parts of the bird, plant facts and continue to show good stewardship of planet Earth as we reuse, reduce and recycle. Songs, dances, art, food, and science experiments will all be a part of the fun! South America is an amazing continent with volcanoes, Rain Forest, Mountain Ranges, beautiful animals and sights to see. T.K. and Kindergarteners will enjoy a variety of cultural activities and projects as we learn. Kindergarteners will also focus on specific countries, flags and at the end of the month try writing a report on Brazil! Memorial Day will come at the end of the month with activities to show our appreciation for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and fallen in the line of duty.

I am so excited to see everyone working so hard on their reading! We will continue to use Reading IQ as well as ABC Mouse to help us in sharpening those skills. Book reports, writing prompts and word building exercises will also help us to keep up with our spelling. We will also focus on time and fractions for math; perfect for trying out some cooking skills at home. For Geometry we will continue to work on identifying Geometric shapes and finding them in our everyday environment…from our pantry to our art work!

T.K . will continue to build on their skills for Math, Reading and Writing while Kindergarten continues to solidify their knowledge of place value, re-grouping for addition and identifying parts of speech in sentences along with spelling with long vowels for more independent writing.

May is also our Art History month, it is such a beautiful culmination of an amazing curriculum for all to enjoy. Studies on the masters along with more on-line art lessons will provide us with the freedom to express ourselves creatively and artistically in our own artwork. Together we can make it happen….a little creativity, ingenuity and lots of teamwork…we’ve got this! Were almost to the finish line, lets finish strong!

Looking forward to an amazing adventure in learning….ready, set, go!

Ms Audrey
