April Showers bring May Flowers! The Honeybees are ready to embark on their journey of learning! We’re going to begin this month of distance learning by making tissue paper piñatas in honor of Cinco de Mayo. We might even have a special yummy cookery lesson!
We will be traveling to the continent of North America; learning about the different animals, landmarks, and countries. Our zoology lesson of the month will focus on the spider. Through nomenclature cards, we will learn the different parts of a spider. Our friends are going to create their very own crawly eight-legged insect and label the parts.
May is full of so many different special holidays! Who gives us hugs when we’re feeling sad? That’s right..Mommy! We’re going to celebrate mom by planning a little surprise and special craft to show her just how much we LOVE her!
Our buzzing bees are continuing to work hard in our math and language areas. Some of the friends will be working on recognizing initial sounds of /y/ and /z/ and others will begin the process of building words with the vowel /u/ middle sound.
Now that we’re getting closer to the end of the school year, our math lessons are becoming more challenging. I will be introducing the concept of place value by using our large decimal card presentation tray and will have our friends make their own decimal card tray.
To end our month with a BANG, we will be hosting a virtual art exhibition! Our honeybees are going to turn into little artists and learn about the various artists who have made a difference through their art. Creative minds will be turning and hands will get dirty!
What better way to learn about these artists than to create pieces of art that are inspired by these artists? I am looking forward to another month of hands on learning with my sweet honeybee friends! Although we are not physically together, we are together in spirit!
